Like everybody else I was shocked by the attack in the offices of Charlie Hebdo. A horrible act by some low lifes that THINK they know what their God wants
Unlike many others I will not say or claim to be Charlie, I am not. I fully agree with freedom of speech, let this be clear and this is not the reason I won’t say “Je suis Charlie”. The reason is simple. If you say..Je suis Charlie you have to be willing to post/tweet their most offensive cartoons and I am not willing to do that.because for me there is a difference between “freedom of speech” and “willingly offending people because you don’t agree with their religion in the name of free speech”. Basically the same reason why I don’t tolerate racism under the free speech flag
I really really dislike religion. Religion is the number one cause for war, oppression, discrimination, racism and a whole lot more of that crap. Terrorists (Muslim, Christian even Buddhist), Hate groups (KKK, the “so called Christian” anti gay lobby) Religion driven governments (Israel, Iraq/Iran etc) Religion driven laws (No gay/interracial/inter religious marriages because we are a “christian/Muslim/Jewish society and “our” god doesn’t allow that) need I go on?
Does that mean I don’t believe in God? Heck no.. I absolutely believe in God, I only have to look outside and watch, to see there must be a God. All of this could not have happened by chance alone and I fully believe that God created all of this in a Big Bang. Yes.. I am both an evolutionist as a creationist. If you put the bible and lay it next to the Big Bang/evolution theory you will see that they essentially say the same thing about the creation of our universe.
For me, God is love, peace, freedom and tranquility, all things you won’t find in religion. God is about the hummingbird sucking honey, the wolf hunting for his meal, the sun and rain nourishing our world. God is about helping my brothers and sisters regardless of whom they are and where they come from. God is about living with respect for your world and everything in it and because that is what God is about and religion lacks these things I love god and hate religion.
Because I love God, I won’t say I hate religion because with my view of God there is no place for hate, I don’t dislike religious people either, I dislike how many of them act and I pity them for how they think their God wants them to behave
If there is a heaven and God is real, you don’t need to follow a religion, you just need to follow these simple rules Love God properly, Don’t hate, Don’t exclude, be loving, caring, helpful and respectful even when you don’t agree with them.
the Steve Miller band said it in an easy to understand way
Feed the babies
Who don’t have enough to eat
Shoe the children
With no shoes on their feet
House the people
Livin’ in the street
Oh, oh, there’s a solution
In our world we somehow created a tolerance that allows intolerance to grow……..and if God exists and influences our conscious and our doings, he should be ashamed of himself letting us invent religion 🙂

The bible sat next to the book of evolution. Exactly. To show kindness and love, to help not hinder, to “evolve” above the barbaric is both spiritual and evolutionary. It just makes sense.

You expressed this beautifully! I do not believe in returning evil for evil, but yet still understand how those cartoons are hateful and that some would want to return hate for hate. It doesn’t make it right — just shows that provoking hate often reaps hate.
