25 Songs – 25 Days Day 8: Kleine Kokette Katinka – de Spelbrekers

25-songs-blog-challenge4

A song that reminds you of your first love. Well that has to be in kindergarten when I had a “puppy love” as they call it. She was called Katinka and was exactly as described in this song (which has been written about 8 years prior to her and my birthday. I will provide a translation of the song however I don’t think I can translate it in a way that it fits to the music (sometimes you can, sometimes you can’t will post a video where I was able to make a fitting translation after the challenge song.) the song is titled Little coquettish Katinka and the name of the band is “the spoilsports”

{Dutch between the brackets.

Elke morgen om half negen
Komen wij Katinka tegen
Rode muts en blonde lok
Hel geel truitje, blauwe rok
Maar ze trippelt zwijgend naast haar ma
Daarom zingen alle jongens haar verlangend na}

Every morning at half past eight*

We encounter Katinka

Red hat and blonde strand

Bright yellow sweater, blue shirt

But she patters silently beside her ma

That is why all the boys sing her longingly after

(Chorus 1 and 2

{Kleine kokette Katinka
Kijk nou eens één keertje om
Stiekempjes over je schouder
Je ma ziet het toch niet, dus kom}

Little coquettish Katinka

Look backwards for just a while

secretly over your should

Your ma won’t see it so come on.

{Kleine kokette Katinka
Ben je verlegen misschien?
We willen zo graag nog heel even
Een glimp van je wipneusje zien}

Little coquettish Katinka

Are you a little shy maybe

We would very like for just a while

See a glimpse of your tip tilted little nose

{Elke morgen, zon of regen,

komen wij Katinka tegen
Hakjes tik-tak op de stoep,

korte rok met nauwe coupe

Maar haar blik verraadt geen nee of ja

Daarom zingen alle jongens haar verlangend na}

Every morning, sun or rain

We encounter Katinka

Heels tick-tock on the sidewalk,

short skirt with narrow coupe

But her gaze betrays no yes or no

That is why all the boys sing her longingly after

(Chorus 1 and 2

{Kleine kokette Katinka
Kijk nou eens één keertje om
Stiekempjes over je schouder
Je ma ziet het toch niet, dus kom}

Little coquettish Katinka

Look backwards for just a while

secretly over your should

Your ma won’t see it so come on.

{Kleine kokette Katinka
Ben je verlegen misschien?
We willen zo graag nog heel even
Een glimp van je wipneusje zien}

Little coquettish Katinka

Are you a little shy maybe

We would very like for just a while

See a glimpse of your tip tilted little nose (and repeat chorus 1 and 2)

La lala la lala la la

la lala la lala la

la lala la lala la la

la la lala la lala la

(*negen actually means nine but the way we tell time is different than in English, we say half nine instead of half past eight)

As promised here is the song that I translated in “sing along style” the lyrics are actually correct but with a little “artistic” freedom to make it fitting the music)

I translated this for a good friend of mine that lives in California. My (foster) mother used to sing in this group and is playing in the playground with the other kids as well. It was during the early years of Dutch television and the child choir she was singing in was pretty famous in our country and was called the Karekieten (Bird name, English name is Reed Warbler) for the younger kids and when they ecame a little older they went to the Rietvogels (umbrella name for birds living in reed lands  name, English name is unknown to me)

I am not doing this challenge alone check out the following blogs for more songs and interesting articles about a range of subjects. I am sure you find something you like. the links are from yesterday though
